TED Bursa Koleji MUN (Model Birleşmiş Milletler) Kulübü’nün 12 öğrencisi İngilizce Öğretmeni Lara Bertel liderliğinde ODTÜ Kolejinde gerçekleşen 2015-2015 Eğitim öğretim yılının ilk MUN konferansına katıldılar.
Öğrencilerimizden Altay Kaçan, İbrahim Üner, Deniz İmer, Melis Koçak, Oğulay Kapçak, Zeynep Lümalı, Yasemin Özer, Berkay Çelikkol, Ata Berk Aycan, Ufuk Ertürk, Damla Turan, Ilgım Cengiz, ODTÜ Kolejinde münazaralara katılarak, dünya sorunlarına çözümler ürettikleri çok verimli 4 gün geçirdiler.
Öğrencilerimiz çeşitli komitelerde farklı ülkeleri temsil ettiler. Ulusal Güvenlik Konseyinde, İnsan Hakları Komitesinde, Politika Komitesinde ve Berlin Duvarı ile ilgili yapılan özel bir konferansta öğrencilerimiz görev aldılar. Katıldıkları komitelerde öğrencilerimiz Kore, Kıbrıs ve Türkiye’yi temsil ettiler. Kulübümüze yeni katılan 10. sınıf öğrencimiz Zeynep Lümalı ve 9. sınıf öğrencimiz Ata Berk Aycan, Kore elçileri olarak genel kurulda tüm katılımcıların önünde çok başarılı bir açılış konuşması yaptılar. IB öğrencilerimizden Altay Kaçan ve İbrahim Üner, Berlin Duvarı ile ilgili yapılan konferansta Paul Schlüter and Rajiv Ghandi’yi çok başarılı bir şekilde temsil ettiler.11 IB öğrencilerimizden Deniz İmer ise İnsan Hakları komitesinde yer aldı.
Aktif bir paylaşım sürecini içeren konferansta öğrencilerimiz kendilerini başarıyla ifade şansını buldular. Konferans süresince öğrencilerimiz yeni arkadaşlıklar da edinerek eğlenceli ve faydalı bir çalışma gerçekleştirdiler. Etkinlikte yer alan öğrencilerimizi göstermiş oldukları bu başarılı performanstan dolayı tebrik ediyoruz.
Ted Bursa College’s MUN club members attended their first conference this year in METU College, Ankara. Twelve high school students (Altay Kacan, Ibrahim Üner, Deniz Imer, Melis Kocak, Oğulay Kapçak, Zeynep Lümalı, Yasemin Özer, Berkay Çelikkol, Ata Berk Aycan, Ufuk Ertürk, Damla Turan, and Ilgim Cengiz) and their advisor, TOK teacher Lara Bertel, spend four rewarding days debating, writing resolutions and generally having a splendid if studious time!
The students attended one of the five committees (Disarmament and international security committee, Human rights committee, Political committee, Environmental committee and the Special conference on the wall of Berlin) and represented the Republic of Korea, Cyprus and Turkey.
Our two ambassadors, 10th grader Zeynep Lümali for Cyprus and 9th grader Ata Berk Aycan for the Republic of Korea, albeit understandably nervous, delivered eloquent speeches in front of all the participating delegations at the opening ceremony.
Ted Bursa MUNers were dedicated and at times even quite passionate when it came to debating, voting and writing resolutions. They put their minds together and worked cooperatively with other delegates to find solutions to some problems the world is facing today. They often faced challenges dealing with topics such as the issue of peacekeeping troops, the prevention of human rights violations in North Korean prisons, the political recognition of states with special focus on the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus or the preservation of wildlife in Antarctica; but all tried their best to participate and generally aid the issues to be resolved.
Special mention should also be made of IB students Altay Kacan and Ibrahim Üner who respectively represented Paul Schlüter (Denmark) and Rajiv Ghandi (India) in the Special conference on the wall of Berlin, as well as Deniz Imer who was the sole representative of the OHCHR in the Human rights committee. They had to research well and face some crises during the debates and they did a great job.
It was not all work though, and the students enjoyed a social event with delegates, chairs, organizers and advisers. After refining their debating skills, they refined their dance moves!
Exhausted but happy to have attended, they generally agreed that participating to the conference also tremendously improved their English speaking skills and they can’t wait to go to another MUN conference.
